Buxus Sempervirens

DESCRIPTION

English Box has glossy dark green leaves and grows as a dense hedging plant. English Box is very tolerant of extreme weather conditions and can tolerate long Summer months in full sun yet remain for months under snow. It can be maintained in pots and shaped as a standard topiary or shaped in many forms.
Grows to 1.5m high and 1m wide but can be trimmed to shape at any height from about 20cm. Grows approx 10cm per year.
Plants for sale are healthy plants about 20-25 cm high in 6" pots, as pictured opposite. They are ready for planting direct into garden beds.

CULTURE NOTES

Prefers full sun to part shade and well drained soil. Very hardy - will tolerate summer sun and frosts. Can be planted in clay soils
Benefits from fertilizer in Spring and Autumn.Use blood and bone or other organic fertilizers.
Propagated from cuttings.

Tip: Mulch will conserve water and reduce soil temperature during hotter months. It will also slowly feed the plants with nutrients as it breaks down and keep soil healthy. Keep a layer of mulch about 50+mm around plants. Apply an initial layer at least 100mm deep as it will settle to 50mm in a few weeks.
