Other hair straighteners usually do not quote heat up speeds for reasons due to possible variances in local temperatures and power supplies. However, we can give you a reasonable estimate that the iron will take about 20 seconds to heat up from a chilly 17 degrees Celsius in winter to a reasonable workable temperature. If you are somewhere cold, or have heavy loads in your power supply, it may take slightly longer. As for the suspended plates, like a car's suspension, they do 'float', but are not very flimsy or soft as they may end up curling your hair otherwise. We like the floating plates because unlike solid plates from other straighteners we use, they don't warp due to uneven heat expansion when the iron is on. Plates on most irons seem straight and flat at first, but when you turn some of them on, their plates or handles start to 'warp', resulting in uneven pressure which may pluck out your hair - so beware of this fact if you choose not to buy this wonderful device.

Some irons use ceramic handles (those that have the furry/paper texture look) which tend to be more heat resistant, but are also slippery. This device uses a special heat resistant plastic with a gloss coating that permits maximum surface grip with your hands unlike other ceramic handle irons (they don't have a gloss surface and lets air get between your hands which reduces grip). Other irons may use rubberised handles, but those are nasty because when we tried those, hair gets caught between the hand and the rubber handles which results in hair getting pulled out very often which is a Very Nasty experience. You won't get that with this iron as the gloss surface allows grip remains while the hair flows smoothly over the handles.

This iron rivals major brands like GHD and in quality and performance. Out staff have owned 6 hair straighteners from various brands in the past (including GHD). This model had the best results for the price by far, and its pretty obvious why as it's good value for money.

This hair iron is relatively water resistant for your own safety, but it is not water proof. Although human hair has some level of moisture in them naturally, you must avoid letting this device come into contact with any liquids and you should take all necessary steps to ensure that liquids do not enter the device. Do not use the hair iron if your fingers and hands are wet or if you are standing on water or wet surfaces as a closed circuit may form through the water, causing electrocution. As with all electrical appliances, contact a certified electrician if you have any doubts. Also prevent people who are not aware of its function from gaining access to this device. If you are unable to disconnect the device safely due to electrocution hazards or if there is an emergency, consider switching off the master power supply to the premises or building before disconnecting the device (by the circuit breaker or power board if it is safe to do so).

All irons are also a burn hazard, and are not suitable for use by children and people who are not physically or mentally capable of using this device safely. Brief overview of basic operating instructions:
Full instructions are in the user manual. Basically, you plug the iron into a AC power socket (110-120 / 220-240V depending on your model) and turn it on by pressing the (O/F) button on the hair iron for about 1 second. The hair iron will turn on and start to heat up immediately to 180 degrees Celsius. To set the desired temperature, press the (+) and (-) buttons and the hair iron will proceed to match that temperature. To activate the Enhanced IR and Ion emission mode, press the (O/F) button 2 to 4 times and the respective modes will be displayed on the LCD display, pressing the mode button also switches between timer modes.

To commence hair straightening, gently sandwich / clasp a couple of strands (approximately 50 or so strands) between the hair straightener plates and gently move the hair iron down in a straight motion away from your scalp. This will cause the hair to flow through the gap between the hair iron plates, and exit the other side with a more straightened structure.

To turn it off, press and hold the (O/F) button for around 1 second, and the device will display a blinking OFF sign on the LCD screen. You should unplug the hair iron from the socket after use to prevent power surges from damaging the device or the LCD. The LCD will display the blinking "OFF" indicator until you unplug the device or turn off the main switch.

Special Usage Notes:
- The hair iron automatically turns off 60 minutes after you turn it on. This is for your own safety. You can disable this auto shutdown timer or adjust the duration easily. To do this adjustment, press the (O/F) button once when the LCD screen is displaying the temperature, and it will change to display the minutes remaining before the device shuts off (If you have just turned the iron on, it will 'usually' display "60" at first, which means 60 minutes remaining till shutdown). While this number is displayed, press the (+) or (-) buttons to increase or decrease the timer duration. Set it to "00" to disable the auto shutdown timer.

- It is important to reduce the pressure accordingly as the number of hair strands between the plates decreases. For example, as you near the tip at the end of the hair follicles, it helps to release some pressure on the hair strands. As fewer hair strands may be left as you near the last 1-2cm at the tips, the combined pressure builds up and presses on the last few strands of hair remaining, which may cause them to be pulled out accidentally if your not careful.

- The hair usually comes out through the hair straightener in the same directional plane as the hair straightener. So if you turn the hair straightener upwards on its axis, you might end up curling your hair (slightly, as the flat plates usually prevent this).

- If your hair is wavy, you should take extra care to comb the hair neatly so the hair strands don't significantly overlap each other. Keeping it slightly moist can help, or you can also use a hair straightener cream that is certified safe for use with hair irons. Then just put that section of wavy hair between the iron plates, close/press the iron plates together gently and run the iron through the hair in one straight slow motion (without 'patting' or releasing the iron).

- Using a comb to guide the hair through the iron, or combing the hair before hand also helps create an even result. To do this, use the comb to grab a section of hair at the roots, move it forward a bit to make room for the hair iron, then clasp that portion of hair with the iron, and let the iron follow directly behind the comb as you run both through the hair to the tips (The comb feeds hair into the iron evenly between the plates). This is good for straightening ultra frizzy or very wavy zigzagged hair styles)

- Put the hair iron on a non-flammable heat resistant surface that won't burn or melt or release toxic fumes at under 250 degrees Celsius.

- We recommend you don't exceed the 180 degree setting on a hot day, just to be on the safe side. This device comes with a built in thermal safety fuse designed to 'permanently' shut off the device after a critical temperature is reached (eg; in case of thermostat failure). It is highly unlikely that the iron will ever reach this critical temperature in any normal use, but if this fuse shuts off the device, it is a permanent disconnection to protect you in case of an internal circuitry meltdown, and you will not be able to turn on the device again for your own safety. As such we don't recommend you let this hair iron be exposed to any situation where it cannot cool down properly, eg; suddenly covering it with or exposing it to fire as it will void warranty.

A: Hair usually has some level of moisture in it constantly, such as your sweat or from wet hair after showers. Hair usually needs to be dry to be straightened, as wet hair usually causes hair to curl or frizz again after it dries completely. We have used this hair iron to dry and straighten damp hair successfully with no problems, but you are not supposed to let liquids enter this device as you will risk potential electrocution (do not use it with dripping wet hair, as it also poses an additional burn hazard due to hot steam being emitted upon water contact). A: The length of the straightening effect generally depends on 2 things.
