'WHY I WANT TO BE KING OF AUSTRALIA'

In Australia, on June 15, my book 'WHY I WANT TO BE KING OF AUSTRALIA' will be published. The basic point is that in November there will be a referendum in Australia to decide whether the Queen of England should continue to be head of state or whether Australia should be a republic. The conduct of that referendum or the choice is no business of mine. But I suggest that if the choice is to separate from the British monarchy, then having a president (non-executive) would be very boring. It would be much more fun to have a king. A king could set style. A king could take initiatives.


The king could have a Grand Council of Taxi Drivers to find out what was going on. The book is 30 per cent tongue in cheek and seventy per cent serious. There are lots of things that a king could do that cannot be done in a parliamentary democracy. Such functions are laid out in the book. The king would not be hereditary. There would be pomp (which is fun) but no pomposity which is pretension.


Many countries need kings. Not the old version but a new type of king.


Medium size used paperback in very nice condition - read once, first edition.
