Description: An exquisite landscape watercolour on artist's paper, signed "E. Earp" and dating circa 1900 - 1910. Framed - approx 14 X 25 inches (35.56 X 63.5cm). This is an exquisite English School watercolour dating from the Edwardian period. The landscape depicts a classic study of the magnificent Ullswater lake in the Cumbrian Lake District. With beautiful glowing hues from the setting sun, boat sail on the glassy waters, the silhouette of two vessels on the waters edge with a small figure attending. To the left the grasses and heathers grow on the banks of the lake surrounded by the stunning mountainous backdrop of this beautiful part of England. The work is signed "E. Earp" lower left for "Edwin Earp". Title: Ullswater
Date: The watercolour probably dates to around 1900 - 1910.
Artist Biography: Edwin Earp (British 1851 - 1945) is best know for his highland landscapes most often with bodies of water. Well travelled, this artist has a distinctive style with the quality to match. A popular and prolific artist.
Framing: Later plain moulded Pine. Finish: Gilt. The watercolour is mounted on board and has a off-white mount.
Condition: The painting is in good condition, the artist's paper having discoloured slightly with age, consistent with this type of painting, adding to character and authenticity. The later frame has an antiqued distressed finish. There are a rew minor signs of foxing to the top right sky area. The glass has a crack running through horizontally - the painting will be re-glazed when sold. This has not damaged the watercolour in any way.
