Black Beauty is a popular standard heirloom eggplant that produces glossy smooth purplish-black oval fruit to 160mm. Plants are bushy, spreading up to 80cm, and produce up to 5 fruit per plant. The fruit are of excellent quality, and very tasty but Black Beauty is lower yielding and much later than many types and needs a long season. Does well in southern areas. A classic and a proven performer.

Growing Instructions

Eggplants are moderately deep rooting and can be grown on a wide range of soils. They do best on light-textured soils such as sandy loams or alluvial soils that are deep and free draining. Eggplant like A soil pH in the range 6.0–7.0 so adjust soil by applying and incorporating agricultural lime or dolomite several weeks before transplanting. In cold areas start eggplant indoors 8-12 weeks before the last frost. Shallow-sow and keep moist until sprouts appear, which can take up to three weeks. Transplant into the garden when weather has settled and soil is warm. In warmer areas, seeds can be direct sown. Provide rich soil and ample moisture. Eggplants are heavy feeders that require regular watering and respond very well to organic compost and fish emulsions. In colder areas, eggplants are treated as annuals, but in warmer climates they will live for 3 to 5 years.

This meets the needs for entry into most countries. However, I recommend that you check with your own countries quarantine requirements to ensure that the seeds are permitted entry into your country. I will not take responsibility for any seeds confiscated by your quarantine.
