|
|
This is a rare and very collectable vesta case which has an enamelled scene to one side depicting a horse race with grandstand and people in the background. The reverse and sides of the vesta case are plain. There is a match striker to the underside. The vesta case has a hinged cover with a strong mechanism. The interior of the vesta retains most of the original gilding. The vesta case is a very good gauge of silver, very good quality and in excellent condition. There are slight polishing scratches to the surface but these are very minor and are commensurate with its age. The enamel is in excellent condition with no chips. The vesta was manufactured by John Millward Banks and hallmarked in Chester in 1904. It was originally retailed by Hamilton & Co of Calcutta. Dimensions: Height 2-3/16", Width: 1-3/8", Depth: 7/16".
