This is one of a series of excellent fish lithograph cards produced by Chocolaterie d'Aiguebelle of France in the early 20th century. This one was produced in a trade card format with the descriptive information on the back of the card.. We have translated the descriptive information found on the card from French to English. There are two fish pictured. The flying fish belongs to the family of the swordfish but it differs from the swordfish by the height of its backbone which it uses as a sail to glide over the waters. Some of them are quite large. The swordfish is a large saltwater fish with a length of more than 5 meters: a part of its upper jaw is lengthened forming a sword which is a dangerous weapon. It uses this sword to attack the cetaceous mollusks. It is common in the Mediterranean. Its meat is flavorful. The card is in very fine condition. It measures 4 1/2" x 2 1/2". |
