This package is ideal for beginners as tuition will be provided if needed, or for the more experienced fly fisher who wants to explore the acclaimed trout fishing lakes and rivers of this stunning wilderness area. Rod and Fly is a Tasmanian Tourism accredited business, and a member of  Trout Guides and Lodges Tasmania Incorporation. Fly fishing in Tasmania with experienced trout fishing guide Mike will get your blood racing as you face off against trophy Tasmanian trout.

Mike has been successfully teaching the art of fly fishing and holding guided trout fishing tours for over 30 years.Mike's love of fly fishing was spawned on glassy English lakes and wild swift Scottish rivers. The skills and knowledge that began there have been enhanced by a lifetime's experience on the waters of the world's favourite fly fishing playgrounds, and can now be passed on to you LOOK US UP IN GOOGLE.MSN,YAHOO

Rod and Fly also hold trout fishing workshops on the water to help anglers develop and hone essential fly fishing skills, and then implement them on his trout fishing tours. Mike's easy-going style have enabled him to pass on his casting and fly fishing skills to students from around the world.

Classes are based in Hobart, Tasmania, and Mike teaches all aspects, including fly fishing equipment; fly selection based on the area's native insects; and casting techniques with overhead casting and line loop presented in detail.Practicing basic fly casting techniques on land and water, will ensure a swag of trout when you hit the water and make the most of your guided trout fishing tour around the lakes and rivers of Tasmania. Rod & Fly's Mike Tenner is an experienced instructor & guide who offers friendly, caring and patient instruction in the craft of fly fishing.

As a complete novice at fly fishing, I was unsure how much
I could get out of one lesson with Mike, by mid-morning,
the day was already exciting and fun.
I found it easy to learn from Mike's careful instructions
and observations, by the days end,
I had caught a handful of fish! Mike oozes with experience
but he's always able to keep the lessons down to the
level I needed. I can thoroughly recommend him,
not just for the lessons, but for the whole experience
you have throughout the day. I  wish I had more
time in Tasmania to spend with him. Phil.B. N.S.W

Rod and Fly Tasmania is a member of Trout Guides and Lodges Tasmania Inc.it has a membership of the finest and most respected Trout fishing guides and lodges in Tasmania. All our members are committed to providing you with the best knowledge and service possible, and are dedicated to Tasmania's exceptional, wild Trout fishery.

TGALT's guided angling point of difference starts the moment you contact any or all of our members. Tasmania's guiding industry starts with the guides themselves. It is driven by people of passion, a passion for our fish, our fishery and our environment. It is not added to or sheltered by impersonal corporate structures - when you book a Tasmanian guide you are dealing with the people who provide the direct service.

This service has a proven track record with the majority of our members having a large percentage of their annual business made up of repeat bookings or personal recommendations of existing clients. Some as high as 70%. Our promotional partners, Tourism Tasmania, know this is so with the feedback they get from the numerous internationally recognised visiting anglers and media commentators such as Barry and Cathy Beck (USA), Jack Dennis (USA) and Gary and Jason Borger (USA). These anglers and more, all with international guided fishing experience rate their Tasmanian guides as amongst, if not the best, in the world.

 Accredited guides and lodges have achieved the following standard:

  • A sound knowledge of, and practical experience in, Tasmania;
  • A minimum of three full seasons, trout fishing in Tasmania;
  • Public Vehicle License for all vehicles use;
  • Passenger Vehicle Certificate for the drivers of all business vehicles;
  • Boats used are under current Maritime and Safety Tasmania (MAST) Survey;
  • Boat Operators hold a Limited Coxswains License;
  • A minimum of $10m public liability insurance;
  • Senior First Aid Certificate;
  • Appropriate accommodation Certification;
  • Tourism Council of Tasmania accredited and holds an appropriate Commercial Visitors License to operate on Public, Crown, National Park and Hydro Tasmania land and
  • Complies with the Association's Code of Ethics.

Tourism and the trout fishery are very important to Tasmania. We seek to protect our reputations and market share through increasing self-regulation and State government action. Guiding is an expensive business, both for an accredited operator and his anglers. Any non accredited guide who provides a markedly cheaper product needs to be looked at very closely to ascertain if those costs have been reduced by a failure to comply with necessary minimum standards.

Rod and fly is proud to be a member of TGALT
