FLY-DRESSING - DAVID COLLYER - 1975

David Collyer who is, according to Richard Walker, 'one of the best professional fly-tiers in the business', has written a book about flies and their dressings.  This work will take its place among the angling classics.  It is divided into five sections:

• Dry flies
• Nymphs
• Wet flies
• Lures
• Salmon flies

The appropriate conditions for the use of each fly, the method of tying and the dressings are all described in detail; the flies are illustrated with ninety-one line drawings and ninety-six full colour photographs.

The author's ability as an angler demands artificial flies that will be attractive to the fish and will also stand up to the severe strains imposed by casting, particularly the long-distance casting used on reservoirs and other still water fisheries. 

This is a thoroughly practical, easy-to-follow book.  His speciality is devising flies that can been tied without undue difficulty.  He also has an informal style, bringing in many interesting and often amusing personal anecdotes that extend the instruction.  Above all, he is an artist who is attracted to the dressing of flies that will take fish.

This 240 page hardcover is ex-library and as such has all the usual stamps and stickers internally and externally.  There is contact to the cover which has some edgewear, marks and fading to spine.  The book is slightly askew.  Internally there is some browning to page edges and some light marks on just a small number of pages.  It is otherwise tight and clean.
