A better than average example of these heavy slate French mantle clocks. This one was sold new here in Brisbane back in the 1880's and has been in the same family ever since. The retailers name of "SNOW Bros. BRISBANE" is still visible on the dial. On the back of the movement it Is impressed with the well known French makers mark of R & F PARIS and the date number of 1878. The pendulum number matches the movement number of 5814. It has just been fully serviced and is keeping excellent time and runs for eight days, striking the hours and half hours on a bell. The black slate case is nicely engraved with floral and vine patterns and highlighted with gold and silver gilt. On iether side of the dial are bronzed pillars of women and on the case sides are bronzed hanging handles. There is also a bronzed swag piece on the top plinth. It is in excellent original condition with just a few minor nibbles from the exposed slate along the edges as per photo's. Height 44cm x Width 34cm x depth 16cm
