![]() Title: "Dragon & Crystals" ARTIST'S STATEMENT The ink-work and drawing style creates spectacular textural quality and detail. The play between positive and negative areas is interesting with the white border materialising into the solid crystal shape that the dragon form perches on with the wings extending out beyond the dark shadows of the unknown. Perched, coiled ready to spring he balances expertly upon his crystal. Often seen guarding treasure a dragon personifies the difficulties that have to be overcome in order to attain an important goal. The dragon has become a popular motif, capturing peoples imagination and appearing in stories, decorative items, fashion, jewellery and artworks. Dragons appear in Christianity as hostile powers opposed to God. In fairy tales they are the magical guardians of treasure and abductors of princesses, representing the difficulties we must overcome before obtaining our goals. Jung sees the mythical battle with dragons as battle between ego & regressive powers of the unconscious. In Hinduism and Taoism the dragon is a powerful spiritual being that can produce the drought of immortality. China and Japan see the dragon as the bringer of good fortune that frightens away demons. It is associated with water and grants fertility, however it also represents the masculine powers of the heavens (Yin and Yang). ARTIST REPRODUCTION PRINTS
