Hey Everybody! Today I’m putting one of the best basses I’ve played up for sale. My sound has moved from the Jazz bass and I’m doing more stuff on tenor banjo and double bass – and I need the cash, so somebody is going to be the lucky owner of this bass. It’s a made in Mexico Active Deluxe bass that I bought several years new from The Bass Player in Annandale, Sydney, when my old youbeaut $2500 Ibanez shat itself. This was supposed to be a back up bass for the band I was in, but I ended up using it for a few gigs and constantly in a home studio. A few years after this I sold the bass to a friend to buy the US version – figuring that it’d be better. I was wrong! Surprisingly the US model didn’t have the sustain of the old Mexican. So I sold it and bought this bass back off the bloke a few months later. Around two years ago I had it professionally set up at the store a few doors down from the Bass Player – I can’t remember its name. They have elixir strings on them (The best I’ve found) and they still feel new and sound very bright. It has all the standard features of the deluxe of the time – a really versatile 3 band active EQ, US made pickups and so on. Its action is quite low and there’s some buzz through the D string – not audible when plugged in though. The neck is straight and one of the best I’ve played. Seriously. I went through Allan’s music in Melbourne a few weeks ago and played a bunch of the basses there and none felt as good as this. Also, I should mention that the bass has the the ol' "Crackly Input" syndrome. It's not a problem most of the time but moving the end of the jack when it's in makes a crackling noise. I've been told this is very easy to fix - but I don't want to correct it while it's working perfectly otherwise. Funnily enough, I had this happen to my US Jazz as well. Sound wise it’s quite bright and very versatile. Like all active bass it sounds fantastic when played with a pick and is has great punch for slap bass as well. Cosmetically it’s in quite good condition. However I did have the fender Ashtrays mounted on it at one point – so it has the two small screw marks on the body for the bridge pickup and two through the pickguard as well. On the back at the rear of the bass there’s a small black mark. I have no idea what this is from but it won’t wipe off. At the top of the neck there’s residue from a sticker that was on it when I bought it. But it’s still a looker with great finish and a good piece of wood under the sunburst finish. Payment is available cash in hand or direct deposit into my bank account (Preferred) PayPal is also available if you really, really must. Pickup is available from Richmond, Melbourne or from the CBD during business hours. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch. There is no reserve – so good luck! On 07-Nov-09 at 13:06:58 AEDST, seller added the following information: Edit: I went hunting last night and found the ashtrays for the bass. I have the bridge and the front pickup tray. Both are genuine fender (Bridge is stamped with the big stylised "F") and both are in good condition, without any scratches. However I don't have the screws to mount them - they're a common size that should be available from bunnings for bugger all. |
