Ford EF EL Trip Computer Wiring (Harness) Kit

Suits all GLI, Futura, XR6 models

One of the best interior upgrades to your Ford is fitting a trip computer. This usually involves cutting off the clock plug, fitting in the new trip computer plug, tapping into illumination wires, etc. etc. Well no more!!

This kit (or harness) makes the job a straight plug and play installation.

The harness consists of:

  • A trip computer plug with wires and attached pins that plug directly into the existing clock plug. (for power etc.)
  • Wires from the TC plug with modified pins that fit into the rear of the unused wagon washer/wiper plug - you can also use the demister plug. (for Illumination, night dimming)
  • A wire from the TC plug with pin attached to fit into the instrument cluster RHS plug. (for data feed)

Also included is a step by step installation guide and pictures. As well as a scanned copy of the trip computer functions and operation guide from my Ford owners manual.

Installation of a trip computer to some models can cause flickering of the LCD when the engine is running. That's not a problem as I supply the info on how to fix this - disconnection of one wire in the harness.

Importantly all the wiring colour coding is kept constant with this harness so it's very easy to follow "what goes where" during the installation - we're not swapping from Blue/red to Yellow/black etc. and making any sane person's head spin!!!

All parts are good quality second hand except for the clock plug pins which are new. All pins have been soldered to the wires and the joints are covered with heat shrink tubing for security/insulation. All leads have been tested for electrical connectivity.

No soldering, wire cutting/stripping - all the hard work has been done for you. Installation takes about 1.5 hours. Tools needed are a phillips head screwdriver, small flat blade screwdrivers (I recommend the jewellers ones that come in a set for about $5 - makes the job easier), and a small amount of electrical tape.
