On offer is a 1951 Genelex Model BC1101 4 valve AC mantel radio operating on the broadcast band. As the accompanying photos indicate, it is a stunning jet black in colour. It has been a much admired radio over the years largely due to its rare cabinet colour for this make and model of radio, and also due to its excellent condition.
There are no cracks, chips or scratches to the cabinet. It has a lovely blemish- free lustrous sheen as clearly shown in photos number 1 and 6. The control knobs and tuning mechanism are in good condition and functioning. However, some of the painted station call signs which are printed on the underside of the dial glass have either partly or fully rubbed off, as indicated in photo No. 2. These days such defects can be remedied, if desired, by buying a replacement reproduction glass.
The chassis appears to be intact and in reasonable condition with all components present. The set has not been powered up whilst in my possession and accordingly I am unaware of its operational status. It is being sold as not working.
Due to the litiguous nature of our present day society, and as a duty of care, I strongly suggest to the new owner of this radio that prior to any attempt to power up the radio, a thorough inspection by a licenced and competent radio technician must be performed as a precautionary measure against any potential fire/electrical hazard that may be present or develop in the radio. It is after all an almost 60 year old electrical apparatus operating on lethal voltages!
