Gene Alec Littler aka "Gene The Machine" is the golfer from San Diego who is coined the quote :

"Golf is not a game of great shots. It's a game of the most misses. The people who win make the smallest mistakes."

Gene was the 1953 U.S. Amateur Champion, won a PGA Tour event in 1954 when STILL AN AMATEUR and turned pro later that year.

Gene went on to win a total of 20 USPGA tournaments.

GENE WAS THE 1961  US OPEN CHAMPION.

Gene was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1990.

From my personal collection here is a lovely INSCRIBED & SIGNED action photo of Gene in his prime.
