NORTH AFGHANISTAN 1930s

This Authentic Old Afghan Turkoman Village Knotted Pile Rug from North Afghanistan has a Locally Grown, Hand Spun Wool Pile Asymmetrically Hand Knotted to Hand Spun Wool Warps and Wefts and Displays Tekke Turkoman Guls on a Rich Deep Red Field with Classic Tekke Main Borders and Finely Drawn End Panels. The Design Elements, Colours and Materials Used and Weaving Style Place its Origin Among Descendants of Tekke Turkoman Tribal People who Moved to the Far North of Afghanistan from Turkestan in the 1920s.

The Fine Pile Knotting, Evidence of being Hand Knotted on a Horizontal Loom, Excellent Quality Locally Grown Wool and Nicely Balanced Layout of the Main Tekke Guls are Proof of Creation in the 1930s and This Example Measures 1.46m x 1.02m (4ft 9.5 inches x 3ft 4 inches)1.55m x 1.08m, is in Good Condition for its 70 Years of Age with some signs of the years including a small old repair in the bottom right corner and some wear at the warp ends and selvedges. It is Suitable for Use on the Floor anywhere in the Home where it will Last for Many Years and Offers a Very Low Priced Investment Opportunity.

All our Rugs Are Old and Antique not the usual Ebay Miss Described Modern Copies. Many are Over 100 years Old, so they show the signs of this age as rugs are made to walk on. We can not describe every mark of use. We provide a picture of the entire rug and it is up to you to assess its condition from our pictures. We try to take photos which reproduce the colours of the rug as close as possible. As is obvious none are taken in a studio. We have tried to provide a few different tones and extremes and the actual colours are somewhere in between.

This is a Genuine Old Afghan Turkoman Hand Knotted Pile Rug Created in the Far North of Afghanistan in 1930s. BIDDERS CAN BE CONFIDENT IN OUR DESCRIPTIONS AND KNOWLEDGE OF ORIENTAL RUGS. I have been collecting and dealing in Antique Oriental Rugs for over 25 years, wrote a book which was published in Australia in 1991 by Kangaroo Press, entitled A Guide to Oriental Rugs, ISBN number is 0-86417-375-X, and this book can be found in many Australian libraries. I have also written a large number of articles for Australian and International magazines on the subject.
