EXCELLENT EARLY ANTIQUE MAZLAGHAN PILE RUG

VERY FINELY KNOTTED. WEST IRAN Circa 1910

       This Excellent, Authentic, Antique Mazlaghan Pile Rug from the Hamadan Region of West Iran Displays the Zig Zag Type Design Edging the Field which is Typical of Mazlaghan Rugs Enhanced by a Superb, Elongated Medallion with an Undyed Camel Wool Ground Surrounded by Main Borders of Angular Tulip Motifs. The Hand Spun Wool Pile is Very Finely Symmetrically Hand Knotted to Cotton Warps and a Mixture of Undyed Brown Wool and Cotton Wefts with Every Second Warp Thread seen on the Back in Classic Style of Rugs Woven in the Hamadan Area. It has a Superb Range of Vegetable Dyes and the Very Fine Weaving, High Quality Wool, Extremely Well Balanced Design and Range of Superb Vegetable Dyes are Obvious Proof of an Origin over the Period 1900 to 1920.

     This is a Rare, Early Example of Mazlaghan Weaving and any Rug from this Town is Difficult to Find. Like All Mazlaghan Rugs it is Heavy and Very Hard Wearing and It Has Been Hand Washed, Measures 1.9m x 1.35m (6ft 3 inches x 4ft 5.5 inches) and is Suitable for Use on the Floor in a Household Situation where it will Last for Many, Many Years. It shows some signs of its Over 90 Years of Age including wear at the warp ends and selvedges. See Photos.
