Type of Sword: Genuine MoD Approved 1897 Pattern British & Australian Army Officer Sword This sword is not Australian Defence Force property - it was purchased directly by our company from a British Ministry of Defence fully approved manufacturer of fine superior quality swords for the Armed Forces. 

Date of Manufacture: 2009

Specification: This is a genuine MoD regulation Army Officer Dress Sword, fully approved by the British Ministry of Defence for the British Armed Forces and therefore meets government specification for the Australian Armed Forces for regulation service use.

Bowl Guard: has the current royal Queen Elizabeth II Cypher and is of a regulation three-quarter basket hilt, made from steel, nickel plated and polished to a mirror shine.

Ricasso: reverse is marked with the * Star of Damascus Proof Mark * a world standard symbol of sword excellence, and shows it is a genuine sword.

Grip: is rare original Ray Skin covered.

Fuller (Blade): is a Hand-Forged hardened to 48-52 HRC Rockwell well-tempered and hand polished, the etching is so deep, that you can feel it with your fingernail, it incorporates the current royal cypher of the current sovereign.

Scabbard: is regulation brown leather covered and comes with sword protective Cloth Bag.

Length:  overall is 40." or 1250.mm - with a 32.5 inch or 825mm x6.mm x25.mm blade.

Condition Brand New: This Sword is BRAND NEW - MINT CONDITION this means, this sword is delivered in an un-opened manufacturers box, shipped in a special protective box with inserts to secure the sword whilst in transit,  and will be delivered still wrapped in protective paper. Please note:  we still get questions about what condition this sword is in 'MINT'.

Original Wilkinson Machinery Used: The British Wilkinson company was the official supplier to the MoD, but sadly it closed it's sword manufacturing side of it's operations in 2005, and in the process it sold it's heavy and light machinery, this swords blade was forged by expert craftsmen using old original Wilkinson equipment, giving this sword the highest quality superior finish possible, and thus keeping with the finest of British Sword manufacturing traditions, to the very same fine standards expected by the British and Australian Armed Forces.

Maintenance of your new Sword: Avoid touching blade with your acidy fingers, if you do, then wipe the blade clean after use, store in it's scabbard, applying a thin film of protective oil, such as good non acidy gun oil or even Vaseline.

History: By Royal Command “His Majesty having been pleased to order that the Battalion Officers are for the future to make use of swords, it’s His Majesty’s pleasure that the officers of the Infantry Corps shall be provided with a strong, substantial, uniform sword, the blade of which is to be straight and made to cut and thrust.” The history of the British Army Sword began with this official proclamation from King George III, replacing the antiquated spontoon or half-pike with the fighting sword that remains regulation issue to this day.
