WW1 Kingdom of Austria Hungary Gold Coin
Near mint and flawless condition original gold ducat coin dated 1915, from the former kingdon of Austria-Hungary. A kingdom which disappeared from the political map of Europe in 1918.
This 98.6% pure gold coin features the bust of Emperor Franz Josef I and the reverse shows a double headed imperial eagle and Austrian coat of arms.
This coin, though dated 1915, was more likely minted between 1920 and 1932 as a commemorative issue, though this does not detract from the fact that they were produced in high purity 23.75 carat gold, making them among the highest gold purity coins ever issued and with market analysts forecasting gold to push well over $1000 US dollars an ounce, this coin in its purest form would make a great investment indeed.

What were they? Ducats were gold coins, and also units of account, formerly used in most European countries; including Holland, Russia, Austria, and Sweden. The value of a ducat was generally about 9s. 4d, that is nine shillings and fourpence.
