This magnificent painting from George "Hairbrush" Tjungurrayi measures 200 cms by 128 cms. The style is typical George "Hairbrush" and this particular work is done in very subtle white acrylic with shades of blues and greys coming through. George Tjungurrayi was born circa 1947 and commenced painting in Papunya about 1976 for Papunya Tula artists. He is the younger brother of the very well-known Aboriginal artist, Willy Tjungurrayi. His paintings most often represent specific sacred sites located in his ancestral country associated with Tingari ancestors which were created throughout the "Tjukurrpa" or Dreamtime. GEORGE TJUNGURRAYI'S PAINTINGS HANG IN THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA IN CANBERRA, THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF VICTORIA, THE ART GALLERY OF NEW SOUTH WALES, THE ART GALLERY OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA, THE SUPREME COURT OF THE NORTHERN TERRITORY, MUSEE DES ART D'AFRIQUE ET D'OCEANIE IN FRANCE, ARTBANK SYDNEY, GRONINGER MUSEUM THE NETHERLANDS, AND MANY OTHER GALLERIES IN AUSTRALIA AND OVERSEAS. HE WAS NAMED IN 2003 IN THE PRESTIGOUS "AUSTRALIAN ART COLLECTOR MAGAZINE" AS ONE OF THE 50 MOST COLLECTABLE ARTISTS. IN NOVEMBER 2007 ONE OF HIS PAINTINGS SOLD AT AUCTION FOR $60000. This magnificent painting comes with a full Certificate of Authenticity guaranteeing that it was painted by George Tjungurrayi in Alice Springs during December 2008. There is a Cd with four photos of George with the painting and signing the painting. THIS IS A STUNNING PAINTING WHICH WOULD BE A PRIZED PART OF ANY SERIOUS COLLECTION OF ABORIGINAL ART. |
