George I Design Yew Wood Writing Settee Side Sofa Table

Description:
This is a fine quality early to mid 20th Century George I design yew wood veneered drop-leaf sofa table / writing table.  The table stands on cabriole legs with pad feet having an antiqued patinated distressed finish, rising above which is a moulded rail and square tapering yew wood veneered and cross-banded uprights with a decorative, almost "Chionoiserie", pedestal to the base.  Rising over this is the figured yew frieze with a single drawer and solid yew wood cock-beading with gilded brass handles.  The veneers are all on the main carcass of the table, the sub-frame being made from oak.  The drawers are solid oak with lovely hand-cut dovetail joints, the table surmounted by a yew wood veneered top, cross-banded in yew wood having a rich brown yew colour, unlike the typical yellow yew that would normally be seen on yew furniture, but having a lovely antiqued patinated finish.  The top has lovely ogee arches on the drop leaves of classic George I design. The table has figured yew wood veneers to the reverse side to enable the table to be a free standing piece. The yew wood used has been beautifully seasoned revealing a good rich brown colour.  A very nice exceptionally good quality table.

The table dates circa 1920s - 1950s.

The table is in very good condition for its age, having a beautiful antiqued patinated finish, with minor wear consistent with age and use.
