INSTALLATION GUIDE & FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How to Install.

Installation is easy: From the Isolator pictured above attach the RED wire to the (+ Positive) terminal of your main battery, the Black Wire needs to be attached to the body of your vehicle.

(The BLUE wire goes to the accessories switch or wire, this is the one that makes your radio etc, turn on when you switch on the ignition. (If you don't know where this is an easy solution is to install everything else then take your vehicle to the local Auto Electrician who will wire it in for you which is a very very simple job for them and shouldn't cost more than $20.

Run the long black cable to the back of your vehicle or wherever you want the Thumper Battery, attach the black wire to the body of your vehicle, mount the socket & plug your Thumper Battery into the small anderson socket.

Plug in your fridge into one of the many sockets provided with your new Getaway..

You are finished! EASY!

The Thumper Getaway range now offers corner protection throughout all levels of the unit to offer a stronger and tougher unit all round so it is unlikely to do damage to the casing whilst in transit - perfect for the person who wants to take it OUTBACK and Getaway from power sources.

The Thumper Getaway offers an in-built Solar regulator outlet to allow users to simply plug in an UNREGULATED solar panel (UP TO 80 WATTS MAX) and the unit will completely regulate the charge of the solar panel without the use of an external or additional regulator! - no more worrying about overcharging your 12 Volt battery whilst using solar!

The Thumper Getaway modified range of inverters are an ‘Blue Apple’ branded industrial grade inverter.
These inverters are designed to be able to be run continuously without overheating or excessive current draw. Even the stand by current for the inverter is significantly less than that of a average grade inverter. The inverters are overload protected and electronically isolated.

The unit offers the versatility of a dual battery system, which can be separated from the vehicle and used as a portable battery bank that offers the capability of spike protected jump-starting and a massive 1200 Watts of 240 Volt Power.

What Type of Batteries are used in the Getaway Range

The battery packs consist of the latest AGM cells; Absorbed glass mat. These cells are completely maintenance free so they require little to no attention. Simply charge and use. The AGM batteries allow for not only deep cycling but they additionally allow for cranking ability. The cells like to charge at a voltage rate between 13 – 14 Volts, which means that they are fully capable of charging via the supplied vehicle charging kit.

Will they leak or spill?

No. The AGM batteries completely sealed batterys, meaning that you will not have to worry about the cells leaking acid, fuses, gases or any nasty odours. Due to the fact the batteries are completely sealed, it allows for the batteries to be stored on any one of their sides – even upside-down while working to full efficiency!

Can I store the unit in a non-ventilated area, such as under a bed?

Yes. Considering that the batteries are completely sealed it means that the batteries do not require a ventilated area for storage. This results in the perfect battery to have stored in an ‘out of the way’ area such as under a bed in a caravan or under a vehicle’s seat, even in a draw in the back of 4WD!

Can I use Solar Panels to charge my unit?

Yes. up to an 80 Watt Solar panels can be plugged directly into the Getaway Unit via the built in fully regulated solar input socket. The Getaway will even tell you how much power your panel is putting into the unit & furthermore it will tell you if you are drawing more power than your appliances are drawing or if you are drawing more power than your Solar Panel in giving.

Will it run my fridge?

Yes it will and many other appliances also! One of the main accessories in which people use the Getaway range is for the running 12/240Volt compressor type fridges. As the batteries are deep cycle it allows for the running of accessories even while the battery is charging through vehicle charging, Solar or even 240 Volt!

We do not recommend running gas fridges for prolonged durations due to the high power draw (approx 12 + Amps per hour).

How long will the Getaway last while running my appliances?

The duration of time that the Getaway will last with running accessories such as a fridge largely depends on the amp draw of the appliance in question.

For example: a fridge with an average draw of 1 amp per hour would run for 30 hours with a 30 amp hour unit..
To work out the size you need simply multiply the average amp per hour draw of your fridge by the amount of hours you want your fridge to run for. Take into account that if you are driving a little every day your unit will be recharging i.e 1 hour of driving you will have put 25% charge back into your battery.

Can I use inverter for my household 240 Volt appliances?

Yes. The Getaway comes standart with a mounted Synergex Industrial Grade 1200 Watt Inverter which allows for the units 12 Volt power to be converted into 240 Volts to allow for the running of 240Volt appliances.These units will allow for the running of appliances such a laptop computers, recharging phone and camera batteries to even running TV’s, DVD players or even powering tools such as drills and 4 inch angle grinders!

Will the Thumper start my diesel?

Absolutely up to 10 Litre!

Can I charge straight from my vehicle’s alternator?

Each of the Getaway units that are sold are included with a heavy duty 40 Amp Hour‘In car charging kit’

These kits allow you to recharge the unit straight from your vehicle’s alternator with an approximate recharge time between 2 – 4 hours (depending on your vehicles alternator). These kits have been designed for the Thumper range to include an ignition – activated isolator which allows you to isolate your unit for the running of your accessories once your vehicle’s ignition is off. This means that your Thumper unit will charge via your ‘In car kit’ when the ignition is on (even if you are discharging the unit) and will be separated from your vehicle’s main battery once your ignition has been switched ‘off’ – you’ll never flatten your vehicles battery while running your accessories again!

Is jump-starting my vehicle safe?

YES! Jump – starting with the Thumper range is perfectly safe for both the unit and your vehicle. The Getaway range is completely ‘spike protected’ which means that you will not incur any of those nasty voltage spikes which could potentially fry a vehicle’s internal circuits and cause you thousands of dollars in vehicle repairs.

What is the life expectancy of the batteries used?

The AGM cells used in the Getaway range have a life expectancy between 5 – 9 years. The life of your Getaway Unit largely depends on the method in which the unit is charged. Over 10 years on the market has proved that the life expectancy of the units increase when the units are charged via the provided ‘In car charging kit’. When the unit is not in use (discharged regularly), the best method of maintaining the battery is leaving the unit connected to its ‘In Car kit’. This maintains the battery and aids in prolonging the life of the cells used in the battery pack.

What is the warranty of the Getaway?

The Thumper Getaway offers a 2-year warranty from the date of your purchase.

What do I do when my cells in my unit die?

Although the Thumper range offers a 2 year warranty and has a life expectancy between 5 – 9 years… We offer our customers the chance to have their unit repacked when the cells do eventually die out! Once a customer has paid for a repack we offer our customers a new 2-year manufacturer warranty on the unit from the date of repack.

Can I charge my unit and discharge it at the same time?

YES! This is the perfect way to use your power pack. Each socket on the unit can be used to discharge or recharge the unit. (We do not recommend charging the unit straight from a vehicle’s cigarette socket, as the unit will never reach full charge).

Can I recharge my unit straight from my generator?

Yes, Simply plug the on board 240v Charger into your Gernerator and your away!.

What is an Amp Hour?

Amp hour is the rated capacity of the unit. If a unit holds 60 AH and you discharged the unit using a fluorescent light that draws 1 Amp per hour the unit would last for a duration of 60 hours before needing recharging.
