One guitar cable between the amp's SEND or PREAMP OUT into the INPUT on the Glow Baby.

The other guitar cable goes from the OUTPUT of the Glow baby to the amp's RETURN or POWER AMP IN.

(If you are running effects through your effects loop, just make sure that Glow baby is last in the chain).

(1st, ENSURE THE VOLUME ON GLOW BABY IS TURNED RIGHT DOWN) then turn the amp volume up to ANY level - most tubes start to glow at around 4 and above... you can even turn your amps volume to max if you want tons of saturation / break-up.

Now, the good part….. turn the Glow Baby's volume up to a level that is appropriate to your situation. Now you are pushing your pre-amp tubes and making them “Glow” baby! After all, that's what they were designed to do. Glow Baby will give you a nice warm, luscious tone at a realistic level and you will also retain the upper harmonics as well at low levels.

I have a Tascam 8-track Portastudio in my guitar room and it's just always annoyed me that I have to "keep it down" and can never get the same tones as when I make it out to a rehearsal studio or something and can crank it and record - Glow Baby has solved the "keep it down" problems.

Technical info - Potentiometer Taper

The human ear does not respond to loudness in a linear way. It responds to the logarithm of loudness. That means, for a sound to seem twice as loud, it has to be almost ten times the actual change in air pressure. Just the same way that a 50 watt tube amp is not half as loud as a 100 watt tube amp – the reality is that a 10 watt tube amp is actually about half the loudness (in relation to decibels – see below). I, like a lot of guitarists, want a bit of headroom, especially for clean sounds, that’s why we go for higher powered amps… but I digress…

In audio or log pots, the wiper traverses resistance very slowly at first, then faster as rotation increases. The actual curve looks exponential if you plot resistance or voltage division ratios, per unit of rotation.

Linear volume pots rise dramatically in the first half of rotation and then do very little in the last half.

Since our hearing has a logarithmic response to sound pressure, it is important that a volume control should provide a smooth variation from soft to loud, so that a change in position of the pot causes the same perception of volume change at all levels. This is what an audio pot does and what is used in the Glow baby.
