GRAPEVINE LEAVED PASSIONFRUIT - STUNNING LARGE FLOWERS AND EDIBLE FRUIT.
GENUS PASSIFLORA VITIFOLIA

Passiflora vitifolia, commonly known as the grapevine leafed passionfruit is a very beautiful and vigorous passionfruit that is found naturally in Central and South America from Nicaguagua to Venezuela and Peru. It is moderately fast-growing and can reach 5 to 6 metres in height.

Flowers are a deep red and large, from 12 to 17 cm in diameter and are produced in some profusion for three months during the summer. The three- lobed leaves are brownish when young maturing to dark green and are reminiscent of grapevine leaves. The ovoid fruit is dark green with white spots, 7 cm by 6 cm.

Fruit is edible with a pleasant acidic taste although in cultivation it will normally require hand pollination. It is pollinated in the wild by hermit hummingbird. It is cultivated for fruit on a small scale in the West Indies.

Passiflora vitifolia is hardy to about -1C, and can be cultivated in a protected, sunny location outdoors. It is not ideally suited to indoor culture as it requires high light levels and relatively humid conditions.

This auction is for 10 seed . Item shipped by ordinary mail upon receipt of clear funds. Postage cost of 60 cents. ***Save 50% postage & handling on additional lots that are combined for shipment.
