This cheery orange flower adds a smile to any garden. I grow mine amongst the vegetables and herbs but they would be at home anywhere and are very hardy. Calendula is a colourful addition to the garden and flowers abundantly through the year, even in winter.
Calendula was valued for its medicinal, culinary and cosmetic properties in early civilizations, it is still known for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic qualities and is also anti-bacterial and antifungal.
The seeds are 'heritage' which means they are an old traditional variety that has been grown from seed saved over many years (not genetically modified in a laboratory). Next year if you like, you can collect your own seed saving you money.
