HID discussions made simple in 3 steps
At first upgrading to HID can be a little over whelming so we will try and simplify it for those that are new to HID.
There are only three things you need to know when ordering a HID system.
1: The wattage you need 35w or 55w
2: Bulb type that fits your vehicle.
3: The light colour you would like to achieve.
1: Wattage!
Most people use 35Watts kits for low beam and the 55Watt kits are for Hi beam & spotlights. You can find 55watts to be too bright for low beam application but some people do use them. If you have the one bulb for low & hi beam the 35watt system is the most common choice.
2: Bulb type!
You need to work out what bulb type your car takes. The owner’s manual will have this information look up light bulb in the index.
If you have separate low & hi beam bulbs you will need two HID systems for a full HID upgrade or you can fit one HID System to the Low or Hi beam only.
3: Light colour!
The HID system comes with different Kelvin rated Bulbs being 4300K, 6000K, 8000K and so on. The higher the "K" goes the more blue/purple the light goes.
As far as brightness goes it peaks around 4300-5000k after that you start to lose brightness. The most common used Kelvin is 6000k pure white light with a slight blue hue. Light charts on the web are hard to tell the light colour as every screen is different some of the charts are way off the mark.
.4300k: Light appears fairly white with a slight yellowish hue. It has the best performance at around 3200lm output power.
.6000k: Light appears pure white with a very slight blue hue. Very small amount of power lost at around 2800lm output power
.8000k: Light appears pure white with a noticeable blue hue. At around 2550lm power output still 3x brighter than stock halogen
bulbs. Go any higher than 8000K and you start to lose too much light it’s more for show.
Why NTECH-HID
We have been researching & testing HID systems for the past 2 years. In that time we have found that HID components do vary in quality by a big margin depending on the manufacturer. We tested different manufacturers and could not believe some of the findings. The most common problem was just downright poor quality components being used in the manufacturing of these units.
Surprisingly we find one very common fault on many of the units we tested being unstable voltage output. While not a big problem it can be downright annoying as it causes illumination colour variation so your headlights can differ in colour from one side to the other. Unstable voltage output will also shorten the life of your HID bulbs.
Water proofing was another problem as we find water contamination in many units but only in one case did the water contamination stop the unit from working in the time period.
All in all there was one standout OEM manufacturer in which we consolidated together to produce what we consider to be one of the best HID systems on the market today.
Our main goal was to produce a product that can withstand the abuse of four-wheel-driving. Abuse from exposure to conditions like long corrugated roads, water crossings and extreme dusty conditions. The end result has produced a product that can withstand these conditions thus making our systems a very reliable product for all vehicle applications.
