Walter Bacon left his job as a civil engineer in 1955 and went to live for three years at Ivalo in Finnish Lapland, 180 miles beyond the Arctic Circle. This describes his family's reaction to Lapland, the long Arctic winter with it's six weeks of total darkness and to the brilliant summer with its unending sunshine. A sympathetic and beautifully told account. There is some foxing on the outside of the pages and a price penned inside but otherwise fine internally. The dustjacket is good (see photo) with a few small splits and some marks/smudges on the bottom right.
