A HISTORY OF BONNIE DOON GOLF CLUB 1897 - 1997

Beautiful Coffee Table Book by Vic Milburn

Ye banks and braes o'bonie Doon is the story of one of the most influential clubs in the history of Australian golf.

Bonnie Doon is the third oldest golf club in Sydney. Over the past 100 years The Doon has played a pioneering role in both the development of interclub competition and the evolution of ladies golf.

None of this proud history could haev been foreseen when an eccentric group of golf mad cranks first met at the home of an obscure Marrickville doctor in 1897.

From humble beginnings at Tempe, Bonnie Doon has survived moves to Arncliffe and Pagewood without a single moment's loss of play. Along the way, a distinct club ethos has developed. The Doon has always been, first and foremost, a golfer's club.

No wonder the roll call of outstanding players reads like a Who's Who of the Australian golfing scene. From those early greats Dan Soutar, Mabel Trevor Jones and Tommy Howard, right through to Jan Stephenson, Jenny Sevil and Brett Ogle in the modern era, the Bonnie Doon course at each location has provided the stern test of golf needed to produce champions.
