Universal 'Portable Steam Dynamo' Kit

(motorised with glowing 'ash' pan & work light)  


Bring you mine or mill out of the 'Dark Ages' with our 'Steam in the Bush' portable electric power kit! This fascinating kit was recently developed in the workshops of our 'Bulahdelah Alum & Timber Company' and could will be the talking piece of your layout!

For this kit, we supply our popular universal vertical boiler and steam engine kits, a (horse or tractor drawn) sled kit, an industrial motor casting kit and our sub-miniature can motor and integrated 25:1 planetary gearbox. The boiler features an optional glowing firebox/ash pan and we include an optional work light!

Technical details:

Of course the motor really drives the steam engine's flywheel (we won't tell anyone if you don't!) so the unit must be supplied with DC power via a screw terminal block hidden under the sled. The low gear ratio of the integrated planetary gearbox means that the motor can spin the flywheel from 'very slow' to 'very fast' and we suggest you use a pair of 1.5v AA cells in series to power the device as voltage requirements are only 2-3 volts DC at 100ma. For 12 - 14 v DC operation, we supply components for a voltage divider with circuit diagram. (Tip: why not place the sled near your mill/mine and remote control it via a spare DCC decoder function output)
