We are very pleased to offer for auction here a huge vintage Art Deco silver sugar castor standing over 7"/18cm tall! It has a segmented body with what looks to be plastic lining, and a pierced screw-on top with urn finial, raised on a stepped circular base - very lovely!
Item Description:
1930's Silver Art Deco sugar castor or shaker.
Assay Town Mark: Birmingham
Date: 1933
Maker’s Mark: Joseph Gloster Ltd (it also shows another set of marks which we cannot identify with certainty.(except for "925" - possibly imported).
Weight: 207g inclusive of lining
Size: Height: 7"/18cm, Width: at top:3"/7.5cm diameter, at base: 23/4"/7cm
CONDITION:
Generally:
Good for the age. Stands good and level still, with no cracks or splitting to the lining. No serious deep scratches, and no serious dints or bumps.
It would benefit from professional cleaning, if desired.
Visible faults/flaws:
A couple of very small but noticeable dints to the base. Very minor dimpling and some pin-head size dints throughout, which are only noticeable on closer inspection. The hallmarks are quite rubbed, but still just discernible.
Although it is generally accepted by our customers that most vintage and antique pieces of silver will usually have imperfections and show signs of wear from age and use, we always try to describe items as clearly as possible, including any noticeable imperfections, but please see the photographs which we have enlarged to give an accurate as possible description of condition to assist you.
This lovely Art Deco silver castor is a very collectable piece of vintage silver tableware which would look stunning on the dining table. It would also be perfect to add to a silver collection, or else would make an unusual and special gift.
