Humic acid can be extracted from any material containing well-decomposed organic matter. Extraction is by way of treatment of these materials with a solution of sodium hydroxide. This dissolves much of the organic matter present. If we then take this solution and add enough acid to drop its pH to about 2, organic material will begin to flocculate and can be separated from the liquid portion. The flocculated material is Humic acid.
What remains in solution is Fulvic acid.
Some of the many benefits of using Humic Acid in horticultural application:
Humic acid offers a vast improvement to organic substrates by stimulating beneficial bacteria to create a structure for better water and oxygen uptake and improved root penetration.
Humic acid is a natural chelating and complexing agent to help magnify nutrient absorption.
Humic acid increases the permeability of cells to increase nutrient uptake by up to 40%.
Humic acid contains an Auxin-like growth stimulant than can enhance cell division and elongation.
Humic acid can buffer the effects of excessive elements (particularly sodium), toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
Humic acid has a pH buffering capacity to help neutralise the problems associated with pH extremes.
Humic acid features a Cation Exchange Capacity of 450 which aids in water and nutrient retention.
Humic acid has an affinity for iron and can increase availability of this element in all applications.
Humic acid also promotes seed germination in a shorter time.
Humic acid is Non toxic to animals and is microbe friendly.
Humic acid is a Must use product for anyone using organic substrates like coco coir
