A fast growing, evergreen, dense shrub to small tree growing to 8 metres with a spread of 3 metres in an open, sunny position. The phyllodes (leaves) are 8 to 20cm long, silvery green, narrowly elliptical and falcate (curved or sickle shaped). The flowers, which appear in winter and spring, are bright yellow, elongated spikes that occur in the phyllode axils, the flowers are followed by slender, straight, seed pods 75mm long. While infrequently grown in Australia, it is grown in California as an ornamental shrub and has been under trials in Niger, Africa as a food source and were found to be easy to establish, fast growing and high yielding of nutritious, easily collected seeds. The villagers adapted traditional recipes of seed based foods like pancakes, stews and pasta.
