TopScan Ltd. has developed a proprietary technology that combines unique image processing algorithms with advanced electro-optics. The company has filed international patents that address the issue of data/text collection using a totally unconventional method - asynchronous scanning.

TopScan's scanning concept uses a standard low-cost linear CCD (charge coupled device) sensor to capture the image. Smart algorithms compensate for image distortions caused by non-uniform and erratic hand scanning movement or asynchronous scanning.

What's Your Angle?
Different people hold their pens in different wrist angles or tilts of the pen. Our electro-optics team has engineered a solution that enables the user to scan naturally and comfortably at any angle -- much like writing with a regular pen.

Horizontal and Vertical Hand Motion
Wheel-based pen scanners are restricted to a horizontal scanning direction along the line of text. TopScan's transparent tip has no moving parts that need to grip the paper. This wheel-less solution enables image processing to occur along both the x-and y-axis paving the path for future developments of mouse and digital pen functionalities.
