This is a hand carved hairpin from Tampaksiring, Bali.

Beautifully made, this decorative hairpin looks very elegant on. The natural wood is variagated in colour, and there is a lovely shell inlay triangle along the left side at the top. Each pin is quite unique! They give a beautiful touch to your long hair when it is pinned up, and also make a wonderful gift for others. (See my Guides for instructions on buns - the second or third Guide would be the most suitable for this fork.)

This double pronged pin measures approx 1.8 cm in width at the end and 18.3 cm in length (usable length 14 cm), weighing approx 10 g. It is made from sea shell and Sono wood, a sustainable and durable hard wood which holds up well in moving to dry colder climates, and has beautiful markings. It is much more common than other tropical hardwoods of comparable beauty- some of which have been sadly overused and now have become rare.

This product is made in Tegalalang, a little town in the centre of Bali near Ubud. We first spotted some of these lovely hairpins in Yogyakarta and bought some there, and by an amazing coincidence we met the maker while traveling home via Bali as well as this supplier. We buy direct from the makers– resulting in fantastic prices for you!
