The haunting melodies of the Native American flute evoke the flow and cadences of breathing while the pulsing rhythms of the drum evoke the beating of the heart. This recording brings together these two very primal and human instruments in a collection of new and transforming compositions by two award-winning artists, Robert Tree Cody (Maricopa-Dakota) and Will Clipman.

 

Heart of the Wind blends the beauty of the Native American flute with the certainty of the drum. The result is a journey through the elements and into the traditions and culture of Native America. Dakota-Maricopa artist Robert Tree Cody and Will Clipman lead listeners through almost an hour of melodies.


Intertwining Native instruments with a reverence for nature forms the foundation of this musical opus. Relying on the theme of wind and elemental occurrences, Cody and Clipman celebrate the history, events and environment that shape lives throughout Indian Country. 'The Hunters Return', 'Totem Dance', and 'Turtle Island Waltz' uplift the integral events of tribal life. Historical events are represented in 'First Contact, alongside the mystical circle of life in 'Before the Beginning' and 'Grandfather's Breath'. Each piece is a carefully crafted showcase for the talents of these noted musicians.
