Children's Literature
It's a familiar tune, one that
many of us may have sung in school, but it's doubtful that we know all
thirteen stanzas. The story in verse is delightful. It tells of a
little boy who really wants the puppy he sees in a shop window, but he
just doesn't have enough money to buy it. Even though he has a plan to
earn the money, he ends up spending his savings on gifts for his
family. Of course, when his birthday arrives, his gift is the little
dog from the window. Trapani's art is warm and soft, just like the
story, and the facial expressions tell it all.
