Carlos is inspired in ancient Peruvian cultures to create a stunning and modern piece of fine jewellery.

He calls this exquisite set the "Inca Quipus" because the necklace resembles the Incas strings with knots. The Quipus was an Inca accounting system known only by selected people. Read more about the design further down below.

About the materials

950 STERLING SILVER . Carlos' favourite material is fine sterling silver and has all the equipment needed to work with this material and makes everything from scratch. When I see him working with sterling silver I can see that it is a passion that he loves and enjoys, and that he is leaving an imprint in each of his pieces, his creativity, his expertise, his soul.

Hours of work. Each design starts from the moment it is conceived in Carlos' mind. Carlos not only is an outstanding jewellery smith but a drawer too. He draws all his designs and enjoys to make changes in the drawings, when he thinks he has the final design then he is hands on! and the physical process of making a unique piece of jewellery starts. He make a few changes until he is totally satisfied with the final results. Each piece is not only unique but a masterpiece.

About the design

The "Quipu" (see photo down below, top left) is a system of knotted cords using a positional decimal system used by the Incas and its predecessor societies in the Andean region to store massive amounts of information important to their culture and civilization. The oldest Quipu found is 5,000 years old in the city of Caral (Lima), the first city know in South America.

Quipucamayocs, the accountants of the Inca Empire deciphered the quipu knots. They were capable of performing simple mathematical calculations such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing information for the indigenous people.

In the absence of written records "the quipus" served as a means of recording history and passed on to the next generation, which used them as reminders of stories. And thus these primitive computers - quipus - had knotted in their memory banks the information which tied together the Inca empire.

About the artist

Carlos Arrascue is an outstanding Peruvian fine jewellery designer, he lives in Cusco with his wife, children and several dogs. His designs are truly unique and catch the eye instantly. Wearing an original design made by Carlos will make any woman feel beautiful and glamorous. His designs are inspired in ancient Peruvian cultures. Carlos lets his creative mind flow and draws his designs on paper playing with all the different possibilities. Carlos' jewellery pieces come a long way before they are finally completed for the pleasure of all the ladies who love gorgeous and unique fine jewellery.
