1942 Indian Scout with Sidecar
Full history of the bike:
After the war ended the Indians commissioned on land lease for the Navy were to be destroyed so they did not compete with post war sales however this Indian had broken down and had been covered up. In 1946 our Indian was to be auctioned for scrap. In 1946 a mere 50 pounds would buy you a brand new Indian motor. Norm from the Roseberry Hotel bought her and used her to sell coke (not the drink but golf ball sized balls of coal) and painted her black she stayed at the back of the pub until 1971 where she was purchased by Sydney 'Indian Man' Vic. All the Navy Indians were originally olive drab but in 1973 Vic put the sidecar on her and done her up to showroom quality. She made the cover of a magazine in her time with Vic and also did some runs with Vics family at Bathurst. Five Indians over the mountain was quite a sight. Vic sold her in 1994 to a Sydney family, unsure of what she did during this time. In early 2008 our family bought her and she made the trek to country Queensland, we planned to keep her as an investment for our son but have instead decided to have another baby. We got Frank Craw to handcraft the Indian seat and it is truly a work of art he has an apprentice under him now learning to do the seats but I was very pleased that Frank got to do ours before he 'retired' (he has been retiring for a few years now).
The condition of the Indian is good for her age she runs well. The only real thing to fix would be it needs a new seat in the side car and a good clean up. IF you wanted her real shiny you could re-paint her but I think she would lose a bit of her charm. Unregistered and as is.
