General Use of JB Weld
Bonding substrates - all metals, wood, hard plastics, glass and ceramics can be bonded together permanently. Wood can be bonded to metal for example.
The adhesive can be drilled, tapped, machined and ground, just like metal. It will fill cracks and holes. You can build up materials which have been chipped or damaged. For example, a broken propeller blade, chipped, a broken carburetor, a cracked Carter or engine block can be made good.
Directions to use: Adhesive weld
Preparing surface:
Remove paint, primer, rust, etc. Surface for application must be clean, dry and free from dirt, grease and oil. JB CLEAN AND PREP is ideal for this purpose. For the best weld, roughen surfaces to be welded with coarse sandpaper or file and remove any lose particles.
Mixing:
JB Weld consist of two parts. Squeeze equal parts from each tube onto any clean disposable surface. Mix together thoroughly. A wooden dowel or paddle is a good mixing tool.
Application:
Apply with putty knife, spoon, wooden paddle or other suitable tool. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. May be applied in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed. Wash hands after use.
Drying:
Allow 4 to 6 hours for drying before handling. Allow to dry overnight (approximately 15 hours) before putting object to use. JB Weld works faster if used in a room with the temperature above 10ºC.
Speed-up drying:
After JB Weld has cured for six hours, a heat lamp or light bulb placed near the weld will speed the drying time.
Important:
In hot weather or in a very warm room let JB Weld set-up or dry about 15 to 20 minutes after mixing. This lets it thicken and prevents running or sagging. In cold weather a heat lamp or light bulb placed near the weld will hasten the drying time. Depending upon the application it may be necessary to tie or clamp the components you are bonding for 4- 6 hours during which time the adhesive sets. After setting, the adhesive will build up to full strength slowly for another 6-15 hours depending upon amount used and heat. The warmer it is the quicker the process, however applied heat to speed drying time should not exceed 80ºC. The more adhesive used the longer it takes to achieve full cure.
Each person will develop their own ways of using the adhesive to meet their particular needs.

This enables an end user to use JB Weld in and around engines, machinery etc. In fact this is one of the reasons for its suitability in automotive applications. Other commonly available adhesives often do not withstand more than 100ºC or less.
The adhesive will not shrink while it cures/dries. Shrinkage in other adhesives is common and can be a severe draw back in many applications where precision is vital.
The adhesive, once cured, is totally resistant to water, oil, petrol, diesel and most chemicals such as battery acid. The product is non corrosive and non conductive. This means that you can use it as a circuit breaker and where corrosive chemicals will be present. Many other adhesives fail in such situations.
JB Weld is virtually odorless making it user friendly and it prevents solvent abuse. In fact, the product does not contain solvents. It will never adhere to hands or fingers unlike cyanoacrylates/super glues. It washes of skin easily with soap and water.

The Story Behind JB Weld Company
