J.R.R. Tolkien The Hobbit BOOK HC 1958

The Hobbit, or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien.  Hardcover book with decorative boards (no dust jacket) published by George Allen & Unwin 1958 (tenth impression), 315 pages with one colour illustration and a few black and white illustrations (by the author).   The Hobbit, or There and Back Again is a fantasy novel and children's book by J. R. R. Tolkien. Set in a time "Between the Dawn of Færie and the Dominion of Men", The Hobbit follows the quest of home-loving Bilbo Baggins to win a share of the treasure guarded by the dragon, Smaug. It was published on 21 September 1937 to wide critical acclaim, being nominated for the Carnegie Medal and awarded a prize from the New York Herald Tribune for best juvenile fiction. The book remains popular and is recognized as a classic children's book.  This book is in good condition.  The cover is in good condition.  There is some minor wear to the corners (some minor bumping), edges and to the top and bottom of the spine (some slight bumping and creasing).  The top and bottom of the spine have fading (see scan) and there is a small amount of fading to the edges.  There is a small mark to the spine (around the middle).  There are some minor marks to the cover.  The spine has a slight crease and the binding overall is slightly cocked (leaning over).  The book itself is in good condition. There are marks and some wear to the outer. The front and back endpapers (maps) have some very minor marks and some slight foxing.  The front and back endpages have some minor foxing as well.  The front endpages have some minor creasing and there is a name written on one of the blank pages before the first title page.  The first title page, the colour illustration and the next few pages have a tiny rip at the bottom edge (minimal).  Flicking through the book, there are some marks and some foxing (this book has been read… and by the looks of it enjoyed).  Pages 248 to 258 have a crease to the top right hand corner.  Overall a good copy, there is some wear.

Postage costs are Australia Post prices http://www1.auspost.com.au/pac/   I do not charge for packaging (as I use recycled packaging), or for handling.  Any questions regarding the item or postage costs please email me before bidding.  All questions are welcome.

At the end of the auction I will send you an invoice with postage this may take a few hours (or minutes) depending on my schedule.  Please do not pay until I have sent you an invoice.

I post up to 5 times a week, excluding Saturday and Sunday.   I generally post within 24 hours of receiving payment (excluding weekends and public holidays).

Multiple purchases are welcome.

AUSTRALIAN BUYERS (postage within Australia):

Books can be heavy.

0 to 250g   Items under 250g will be posted as a parcel or a large letter depending on size.  This means postage will be between $1.10 and $4.35.

250g to 500g   Postage will be $5.60

500g +  A parcel post satchel (up to 3kg) is $9.90 to anywhere within Australia.  This is the cheapest option for items over 500g or multiple items interstate (usually 3 to 4 books depending on size).  Within Victoria postage is cheaper depending on where you are.  For large items, heavy or multiple items please email me for a price on postage.

Pick up is possible by arrangement.
