JEWELLERY CABINET ANTIQUE C1911

JEWELLERY ROBE antique, circa 1911. I found this robe under an old Queenslander house about five years ago and the old man (80+ years) I bought it from told me his father made it for his mother before the two were married and gave it to her in 1911! It is as I have found it; all I have done is got rid of some of the dust it has been collecting. It has what looks like a glass knob and a brass lined keyhole. There is a key for the lock but it does not insert correctly and it appears the lock proper is not aligned properly. A simple job for someone good with their hands. The timber is silky oak and the outer box is dove-tail joined and it has twin swinging doors opening to three horizontal shelves, one vertical open front compartment, then three small drawers below that and a full width drawer at the bottom. All drawers have small brass knobs on them. There are some minor scuff marks on the outer box but no chips or cracks that I can see and the overall height is 440mm to the top of the scrolled engraving and 390mm across the base. It is 145mm deep including the glass knob.

This is an exquisite antique that will never lose its value. With some correct dressing the timbers will look beautiful! I bet the old bloke was proud to give it to his wife to be!
