LODDIGESIA MIRABILIS
Gould Born 1804 - 1881
This stunning Original John Gould early lithograph is an exceptional work not to be missed. John Gould, also an accomplished Taxidermy , is one of Europe and Australia’s true masters. Sketching an account of native and exotic animals during the 19th century Gould’s wife, Elizabeth Gould (Coxon), later transferred these images to lithographer’s stone, to be set into what in modern times, are Gould’s highly valuable lithographs.
After Elizabeth’s death in 1841, Gould mainly collaborated with H.C Richter (Henry, Constantine, Richter) producing brilliant accounts of wildlife. Gould’s observations of Birds are highly valuable and the work on offer is a stunning and detailed example boasting high key colours with life like precision. The details included and the vivid high key colours included in this lithograph are truly something to see!.
As this work is very old (over 100 years) there is some light foxing visible on the outer portions though this can be rectified by a trained conservationist. There are some very light ripples in the lower part of the lithograph to light to photograph and only visible from very, very close inspection.
The text at the base of the work reads:
J Gould and H.C Richter del et litho LODDIGESIA MIRABILIS, Waltor and Cohn, Imp.
Well framed behind a wood and metallic edged frame this work measures 74cm x 54cm framed and 51cm x 32cm alone. The work has not been laid down to board or the mount which is preferable to maintain value and for ease of re framing please see images provided.
