This is a creative Kokeshi doll who wears lovely white kimono with plum blossom. Beautiful hand painting by kokeshi craftsman.

About Kokeshi:

Kokeshi dolls used to be children's toys for long time ago. Usually kokeshis are all girls. People were making dolls by themselves with a piece of wood which they could get easily in Tohoku -Northern area.
They are made from wood which are Mizuki or Kaede in Japanese. They are suit for making dolls.
Kokeshi dolls made from Japanese wood turncry technique has two types:
Traditional Kokeshi which is based on the tradition, and Creative Kokeshi which is based on the artist's creativity.
The Creative kokeshi formed by the free and unrestrained imagination of an individual artist, are manufactured by thier unique techniques, have developed after World War 2.
