Very good condition, yellowing of the top edges of the pages, and some small tears to the edges of the cover.
THE HIGH ROOF, set mainly in lovely Cape Province, South Africa, with its many racial and social distinctions, unfolds the gripping drama of two 'difficult' marriages. One is that of beautiful, sophisticated Terry Delaporte, a women in her forties, whose second husband is twelve years her junior. The other is that of Terry's daughter, Kirsten, to headstrong Mike Day. In girlhood, as a result of her mother's marriage to selfish, attractive Pierre Delaporte, Kirsten fell prey to the feeling of being unwanted. Her youthful resentment, deepening with the years, darkens her later outlook on life, on motherhood and wifehood. The stresses and strains to which these marriages are subjected, are the high-tension lives of this very human, very exciting story. Blending into the complexity of emotions is the influence of magnetic, unscrupulous Lois De Vries, a journalist, and the poignant love affair of a colored boy and his near white sweetheart, which sparks off the drama that sends one of the marriages crashing from its 'high roof. '
