Title: "At Home Among The Gum Trees" (Kookaburra)

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
The cheeky kookaburra with its beak slightly open, teases the viewers anticipation of the next laugh about to erupt. Surrounded by the olives and blue-greens of the Aussie bush he sits perched in the classic "Old Gum Tree", beautifully framed on both sides with gum leaves and blossom.

Australian backyards are hosts to many amazing native and introduced bird species. I am lucky enough to have a few natives that frequent my yard and neighbourhood. This image is from a series of paintings which explores species observed at or near my home in the Hunter Valley on the eastern coast of Australia.

A kookaburras is a forest kingfisher  famous for killing snakes. It is also known as The Laughing Jackass. Often I hear and see kookaburras on the overhead power lines or resting in the tall trees. They are best known for their unmistakable loud call which is like hysterical human laughter. It is the highlight of my day to hear them, their laughter sounds guaranteed to bring a smile to my face as my eyes scan the neighbouring trees to capture a fleeting glance at them.

Since ancient times birds have been regarded as mediators between heaven and earth because of their associations with the sky. They are seen as embodiments of immaterial things, particularly the soul. Wings are often associated with heavenly beings the most obvious is angels.

Angels boldly laugh

as immortal souls fly.
Flapping wings swoop
ending the serpents reign

ORIGINAL ARTIST PRINTS
These prints are the artwork's original physical form, NOT reproductions. This art work was created digitally, through virtual painting by hand with an electronic pen on a digital drawing tablet, directly into a computer. The process of creating an art image digitally restricts the physical presentation of the artwork to printed form. So like wood blocks, etchings, screen printing and photography, it is not possible to have any other physical representation. Each print comes with a signed certificate of Authenticity directly from the artist along with a written artist statement about the image that you are purchasing.

MATERIAL QUALITY

Printed on high quality 240gm 100% cotton, acid-free, archival, fine art paper. A3 size (29.7 x 42cm = 11.5x16.5inch). Includes a signed certificate of authenticity which includes an artist statement. Posted flat, sandwiched between thick cardboard so that it will NOT be rolled or creased. View our eBay information guide about how to care for and preserve artwork on paper!

Images are printed & distributed by Hexagonal Mandala (Bob & Di Mathews, a husband and wife artist team).
