KOREAN - A BEAUTIFUL COLD HARDY PINE WITH EDIBLE PINE NUTS
GENUS PINUS KORAIENSIS

Pinus koraiensis, commonly known as Korean Pine is a large growing pine from the Korean peninsula and northern China. It is a much admired pine that is underused in the landscape. Since it is rarely seen in the trade and landscape it deservedly needs to be given more attention and utilized more in the landscape.

This pine grows as an upright pyramid that grows to about 18 to 20 metres in height with a spread at the base of 6 to 8 metres at maturity. It will attain an approximate size of 5 metres in ten years with an annual growth rate of 30 to 40 cm per year.

With its long graceful needles in bundles of five and its plated silvery grey bark, it gives a beautiful soft appearance. The dense growth makes it an excellent choice for a visual screen, windbreak or a sight and sound barrier. It makes an excellent background for other conifers and landscape plants.

This species is not bothered with disease and insect problems that are now troubling such species as Scotch pine (Pinus sylvestris) and Austrian Pine (Pinus nigra). This pine makes an excellent choice as a replacement for these two pine species.

An additional bonus is that the large seed or pine nuts are edible and rival the taste and utility of the better known pine nuts of the Italian stone pine, pinus pinea.

It makes an excellent bonsai subject.

Korean pine is adaptable to most soil types and ph as long as they are well-drained. It can be sited in full sun to light shade. It is an ultimately cold hardy species that is also moderately drought tolerant.

This auction is for 10 fresh seed. Item shipped by ordinary mail upon receipt of clear funds. Postage cost of 60 cents. ***Save 50% postage & handling on additional lots that are combined for shipment. As always our seed is fresh and professionally cleaned to give you the very best germination rate.

All lots are accompanied by propagation/care notes. Feel free to email us with any queries.

Happy bidding.
