Signed Lower right by the artist and titled verso "The Red Gum Molesworth Vic."

An outstanding work by one of Australia's living legends of landscape art. Leonard has chosen the powerful subject of a several hundred year old red gum set at the foot of the towering hills of the Molesworth district. The work also features deftly executed stock grazing on the waters edge with morning light glinting from their bodies, perhaps reminiscent of the work of another great Australian painter, Elioth Gruner.
Leonard has received much acclaim for his dedication and love of the Australian bush which is clearly evident in the way he approaches his subjects. He was born in 1911, spending his youth in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. He was awarded the Order Of Australia Medal in 1993 for his services to art.
