provides both professional and private users with the means necessary
to protect and share data securely. While some optical disc drives
support password encryption as
the only security function, GH22NS50 offers the following features to
protect a disc at the user and storage level using SecurDisc
technology: password protection, digital signature, data integrity check, data reliability, copy protection. It protects user data
against unauthorized access through password protection. A digital
signature can be applied to all data to allow recipients to verify data
authenticity. Further, checksums are stored on the disc to verify data
integrity and readability, and users do not need to worry about
dependability with maximum data reliability through redundancy storage
and defect data management system. LG's GH22NS50
DVD writer allows you to password-protect your DVDs before burning them
using Ahead's Nero disc-writing software. Files on such discs can't be
opened without your password, but they are still visible in Windows
Explorer with their thumbnails intact. A 12MB utility has to be
downloaded and installed before passwords can be entered; we don't know
why it isn't included on burned discs. The utility works only with
Windows 2000 or later. We were surprised by the fast disc-writing speeds. The GH22NS50
can't match its stated write speeds for single- or two-layer DVDs, but
it is still one of the fastest DVD writers we've seen. Writing a full
4.7GB password-protected DVD took only a few seconds longer than a
regular DVD. The password-protection feature needs improvement, but it will deter
casual snoopers. Regardless, this is a fast DVD writer at a low price. GH22NS50, the world's first Super Multi drive with 12x DVD-RAM. The Super Multi drive supports not only DVD-RAM but all writable DVD's.
FEATURE:
Having the capability to read and write to the three major DVD formats (DVD-R, DVD+R and DVD-RAM), gives the user unprecedented flexibility. For the users familiar with DVD-RAM, the GH22NS50 offers the convenience of staying with this format, or possibly using it as a bridge between their old format and moving to one of the new DVD+R or DVD-R formats.

secure and protected; now LG Electronics has partnered with Nero to
tackle the security problem with their new Technology “SecurDisc”. At the user level, it uses password protection and AES-128
encryption to prevent unauthorized access. While this concept is
nothing new, SecurDisc adds an extra layer of security by utilizing a
hardware and software based solution. To prevent modification, a
digital signature can be applied to data so that its authenticity can
be verified. The SecurDisc data protection technology aims to protect the
security and integrity of data written on writable optical media. It
protects data from illegal access and alteration by applying a digital
signature, while at the same time protecting data from physical damage
and degradation. It allows verification using the optical drive itself. Already, Nero and optical drive manufacturer LG Electronics are
integrating SecurDisc in their products, and are planning to license
the technology to other users. This technology is currently available
with the LG GSA-55 series drives. Current versions of Nero 7 are SecurDisc ready and will let you copy
protect PDF files. However in order to view a copy protected PDF, a
special application called SecurDisc Viewer and a SecurDisc ready drive
is needed. The retail version of the LG GH22NS50
series drives will come with an OEM LG version of Nero 7 essentials
that will provide you with the necessary software to use the SecurDisc
functions. Note the SecurDisc logo on the drive's tray Door as show above. Only
SecurDisc certified drives will display this logo. Currently only LG
is the only manufacturer releasing drives with this new technology.
Nero plans to introduce a logo certification program so that other
