Magnificant, rare, large, antique French tapestry. Framed in polished, solid oak - 195cm (L) x 81.5cm (H). The tapestry was made in France and comprises two separate Flemish tavern scences: the first with two soldiers playing chess with a woman looking on (who might be a prostitute); the 2nd is of two gentlemen serenading a woman - 1 playing the lute and the other singing. The tapestry is very old and rare and came from an estate. In very good condition for its age.
I've seen, what has been described as "Antique" (which I doubt they are that old), French tapestries, sold in shops for over $1,000. People buy them because they have colour and & glamorous 17C scenes of the gentry. They are dubious and not the same league as this tapestry.
Only selling because I've downsized.
Pick up from Carlton. Will help find suitable shipping agents for interstate / overseas buyers, if need.
