1. A Treatise On Hat Making & Felting 1868 by John Thomson (101pages)

The writer of these pages, being a practical hatter, desires to describe intelligibly· his calling, dispensing with all technical terms, at the same time conscious of being liable to receive an unfair criticism from his brother tradesmen, although perfectly innocent on their part, resulting from the prejudices engendered by the many would-be secrets that pertain to the
different work-shops, together with their various modes and methods of working, all of which most generally are but trifles merely to gain a name.

2. Millinery 1922 by Charlotte Rankin Alken, B.A. (232pages)

As "Department Store Merchandise Manuals" these books were originally written for salespeople and were designed to give them reliable information concerning the sources and manufacturing processes of the merchandise which they handle. When it was necessary to deal with scientific or historical material it was treated as simply and concretely as possible and the point of view taken was that of business rather than
that of the school or laboratory. In this form they have proved their practical value not only to the department store salesperson but in the specialty shop. It has been pointed out, however, that the material has a wider scope than that of sales manuals alone.

3. The Hand Book Of Millinery 1847 by Mrs. M. J. Howell (148pages)

My first little "Treatise on Practical Dress-making," having met with such a
gracious reception from my pupils--and, indeed, I may say from the public at large-I have been induced (by the desire of rendering my system of instruction still more complete, and at the earnest request of my friends) to attempt a second work, on "Millinery, in all its branches."
